Nashville, TN – May 16, 2024 – SongwritingWith:Soldiers (SW:S) is expanding their team as they aim to reach more veterans and their families through collaborative songwriting programs.

The nonprofit has announced the addition of two new team members, welcoming Scott O’Neal as VP of Advancement and Daryl Evans as VP of Operations. O’Neal and Evans will lend their expertise to help the organization expand, reaching more veterans and their families through collaborative songwriting programs across the country.

Executive Director Kristin Starling has also been named President as she leads the organization’s growth efforts. Jordyn Hay has moved from Interim Program Director to Program Director and
Music Director, Jay Clementi, who has been with SW:S since its inception, rounds out the leadership team.

“Adding these important roles will prepare and position SongwritingWith:Soldiers to do what we are most often asked, ‘How can SW:S deliver more programs and help more veterans?’” said Starling. “The need remains great, and together we can all do more.”

A lifelong Nashvillian and Vanderbilt graduate, O’Neal brings decades of experience across multiple organizations, including serving as Chief Operating Officer for The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. He has also held director-level roles with Montgomery Bell Academy and Jewish Foundation of Greater Nashville.

About SongwritingWith:Soldiers
SongwritingWith:Soldiers transforms lives through pairing professional songwriters with veterans at retreats across the country to share their stories and connect with others. The first retreat was held in 2012 near Fort Cavazos, Texas with eight veterans. The bonding, the songs, the impact were so powerful that there was no turning back. Since then, retreats have been held across the U.S., allowing veterans and military families to connect their experiences and write songs with professional songwriters. Lives have been changed because of it. A pilot study by Harvard/Massachusetts General found that the SongwritingWith:Soldiers process can help reduce PTSD and depressive symptoms. Since its founding in 2012, SW:S has served thousands of combat veterans through retreats and partnership programs. The organization has been featured by Good Morning America, Garden & Gun, CBS Mornings, NPR and more. To learn more, visit songwritingwithsoldiers.org.
